Time(LEss)
Today I want to talk about time.
This week I watched The Old Guard series! They recently released the second one, so I went back to watch the first and then happily watched the second. BIG anticipation for this, and I wasn’t disappointed!
If you haven’t heard of these movies, essentially, they are about immortal assassins who, through their missions, have saved mankind over thousands of years. They are on Netflix if this concept tickles your fancy lol!
In any case, having purpose and the value of time are underlying themes of the movie, and it got me thinking.
SPOILER ALERT - at one point, one of the immortals loses their immortality, and all of a sudden, there is a shift.
Time means more again.
We are all MORTAL. Time will pass, and our time, like us, will pass away.
I find humans recognize this more strongly at different moments in their lives.
First, when our grandparents get quite old, and then again when our own parents enter their later years, and finally, we eventually revisit this when we get old. Additionally, sudden death is even more painful and jarring, and it reminds us of our mortality in a somewhat scary way.
In these moments, we start acting, start living, start talking about what we haven’t done and HAVE to do before our time runs out.
But for some reason… this feeling of urgency, drive to better spend our time, it sometimes fades, we fall back into our doldrums, and stop living inspired.
Then we create stories of, oh, I will start that next week, oh, I have lots of time to do that, oh, actually, you know what, I am too old for that now, ahh, that sounds hard.
My message to you today is a caring reminder of your mortality.
You may think that living each day like it’s your last is a silly notion, but I would strongly disagree.
Can you take a trip to Switzerland every day? No, that’s not the point.
You can, however, start saving for that trip, start hiking, working out, and getting prepared for that trip, and start staying prepared and taking advantage of all the opportunities in your life.
You can also live each day positively, you can say YES to things instead of retreating to your living room, and you CAN find and appreciate all the little beauties this world has to offer you.
You CAN use your time or you can ABUSE your time, it’s yours to spend, and you actually don’t know how much of it you have left.
Start spending your time on what really MATTERS to you, whatever that is, and stop wasting any of it stuck in negativity. Remind yourself how little you would care if today were in fact your last day. Use that as a test to see if what is stalling your progress in life really matters.
Is it worth your time? Only do what is.
Thank you for spending a little bit of your time reading this.
I hope that anything you have been waiting to do, you consider starting.
You can change your life at any time, even on a random Wednesday in the middle of summer.
