Inflection Point

This was a pretty inspired newsletter I wrote in my first week of school before I dropped out. Like I explained on my podcast, the 3 week experience of going back to school to become a psychologist was SO VALUABLE, and it was exercises like this one that helped me realize where I truly need to be. Trying school was an inflection point of its own, enjoy.

Holy shit
THE AHA MOMENT IS BACK and CONNOR IS BACK IN SCHOOL✏️

I wrote my first discussion post this week, and other than worrying about friggin’ APA citation protocol which I’m sure I pooched a comma or a bracket or something, it has been fun writing again!

And I really liked my first discussion post, so I thought I would share it directly with all of you!

Here was the question this week:

Consider how your experiences have led you to become a counsellor, psychologist, or other helping professional.

Provide an overview of your personal development journey.

(In 200 words or less 😒)

Yep, my whole life in 200 words or less… okay, TEACH here you go

Let me hit you with a diagram🤓
(They gave the option of a diagram also, okay, I’m not being a full keener first week, I’m just a storyteller, someone else did a Canva diagram alright, so this was way more chill)

When I consider how I reached this point in my life, I visualize a chart with a series of inflection points!

Each point represents change, a new environment, a new coach/mentor, a new pursuit. The x-axis represents my continuous growth and development of both hard and soft skills, like my education, or my ability to communicate and adapt.

Axis-y represents the belief I have in myself and my path, and though it fluctuates, over time it’s always increasing.

People and environments have shaped my life, and whenever my belief has waned, there has been an inflection point, a change. Which has led me to this career where I can support others and foster a healthy environment for them to make positive change.

Our textbook Choices reflects this idea: “The principle of self-determination obligates counsellors to avoid behaviours that control and manipulate clients. Instead, they must employ strategies that empower clients to make independent and informed decisions.” (Shebib, 2002, p. 6)

I am not a client's inflection point; I am unbiased support. Here to help them find their own inflection point, necessary change, or new path. So they can believe in themselves once again.

Some prophetic shit right there… and look at that APA in text citation y’all. I’m back in school BABY!

📣
But listen to this📣

Every time you make a change, start something you have been dreaming about, or just lean into a challenge instead of shying away…

THAT IS AN INFLECTION POINT.

THAT IS THE START OF YOUR UPSWING.

So, what do you need to do to change your trajectory?

(
because it’s time to step up and do it)
